    Description

PET Blockout is print media sold on the roll for roll-ups, X and L banners and posters. The face is white, the back is grey, and the grey layer stops light passing through the material. That single property is what you are buying: on a double-sided roll-up, or on any banner with a window or a lamp behind it, an ordinary media shows the reverse graphic as a ghost and this one does not.

    Which width to buy

Four widths are stocked — 0,91 m, 1,07 m, 1,27 m and 1,52 m — all on 50 m rolls. Choose the width immediately above your finished graphic width, not the widest roll that fits the printer. The arithmetic is unforgiving: on a 50 m roll every 100 mm of unused width is 5 square metres of media thrown away, so a habit of running narrow graphics on the wide roll costs more over a year than the price difference between widths. The 1,52 m roll is worth stocking when you regularly run wide banners or print two narrow graphics side by side and trim them apart.

    Printing and finishing

The material is recommended for solvent and latex printing. Match it to the press you actually run rather than assuming a blockout is a blockout. The edges are the other thing worth paying for: cheaper blockout media frays and rucks along the cut edge, and on a roll-up that shows as a wavy edge inside the cassette and a graphic that catches on the way up. This one is specified not to do that, which matters most on jobs that are rolled and unrolled repeatedly rather than hung once.

    Handling and storage

The listed weight is 17,5 kg, so treat loading it as a two-hand job and store rolls upright or fully supported. A blockout roll that has been left leaning takes a set, and the flat spot prints and cuts fine but sits badly in a cassette. Keep the white face protected in storage; the grey back is the working side of the material, but the white face is the one the customer sees.

    Common questions

Why blockout rather than standard banner media?

The back of the material is grey and light does not pass through it. On a roll up or an X banner, that is what stops the reverse of the graphic ghosting through when the sun or a spotlight is behind it.

    Which printers is it for?

Solvent and latex printing. The white front takes the ink; the grey back does the blocking.

What widths does it come in?

0,91 / 1,07 / 1,27 / 1,52 m on 50 m rolls. Edges do not fray or ruck, which is what keeps a cut roll usable to the end.
