The base decides whether a flag stands up. Everything else about an advertising flag — the print, the pole height, the shape of the wing — is irrelevant if the base is wrong for the ground it stands on. The range covers hard floors, soft ground, vehicles, permanent sockets and everything in between, and the mounting is universal, so bases are compatible with different types of flagpole.
Work in this order: surface, then wind exposure, then pole height. Cross and square bases are the standards for indoor and hard surfaces, and the cross base folds out from two steel arms into a rigid cross that packs flat again for transport. On soft ground it can be secured with ground pegs, and in windy conditions it takes an additional ballast water bag, which is the cheapest safety you will ever buy. Water bases, in 20 L and a premium version, fill on site and empty for the journey home — the right answer whenever the flag travels, because you are not carrying the weight, only the shell.
An auger base screws into grass or soil and is the only honest solution for a field, a verge or a festival pitch. The car wheel base sits under a parked vehicle and uses the car as the ballast, which is how you flag a forecourt or a rally point with nothing to fix into. The plug bar drops into a fixed ground socket where one has been installed. The 30 kg concrete base is the heaviest and stays put — choose it for a position that does not change from one month to the next, and accept that it is not going in the boot afterwards.
Under-weighting is the standard failure. A flag that falls tears at the pole sleeve and takes the print with it, so the saving on ballast buys a reprint. If a base is rated for calm conditions and the site is exposed, add a water bag or move to a heavier base rather than hoping.
