  • Description

An edge-lit snap frame is a poster frame with LEDs along the inside edge, so the print is lit evenly from within rather than by a spotlight from outside. The four sides snap open against the wall, and the poster changes in under a minute without taking the frame down.

    A1 or A2

A1 is the corridor and shop-window size: read from a few metres, by someone walking. A2 is for a counter, a lift lobby or a queue — read close up, by someone who has already stopped. Choose by reading distance, not by how much wall you have. An A2 poster on a wide corridor wall does not read as smaller information; it reads as no information. Both sizes mount vertically or horizontally, so a landscape layout is not on its own a reason to size up.

Where it works — and where it does not

This is an indoor frame: retail, shopping centres, restaurants, hotels and offices. The LEDs are 5000 K, a cool white that holds up against daylight coming through a shopfront and against the white lighting most retail interiors now use. That is also the limit. In a warm-lit hotel bar or dining room the frame reads noticeably colder than everything around it, so put it in the entrance or the lift lobby rather than beside the tables. The 30 mm profile is a deliberate compromise — thin enough to look like a frame rather than a lightbox, deep enough to carry the LED strip.

    Getting the poster right

Print on stock heavy enough to stay flat in the frame, and remember the light passes through the sheet. Thin paper lets the LEDs show through as a bright band along the edge; a plain backing sheet behind the poster fixes it. Keep text and logos clear of the outer edge of the sheet, since that strip sits under the frame lip and is lost. And clean the cover, not the print: on a lit frame every fingerprint on the front is illuminated along with the artwork.

    Common questions

Why edge-lit rather than a spotlight?

LEDs inside the profile light the print evenly from within, so there is no hot spot, no shadow from the frame and nothing to aim. A spotlit poster is bright in one place; this one is bright everywhere.

    What light temperature is it?

5000K — neutral daylight, which keeps printed colours honest rather than pushing them warm or blue.

    How is the poster changed?

The four sides of the 30 mm profile snap open on the wall. No tools, and the frame stays mounted.
