A pavement sign lives or dies by its base. This one is a double-sided snap-frame A-board on a fillable base: fill it on site, and it holds the sign down in wind; empty it, and one person can carry the board away. The frame is silver anodised aluminium in a 32 mm profile, and the snap-open sides mean the poster changes in seconds without tools.
A1 is the everyday pavement format, read by someone already walking past your door — a shop front, a café, a service point on a narrow street. A0 is for a forecourt, a wide entrance or a petrol station, where the sign has to be read from further away and across moving traffic. Both faces take a poster, so the two sides can carry different messages: the approach from the left is rarely the same as the approach from the right, and running one message on each side beats printing the same thing twice.
Water is the convenient fill: it comes from a tap, it goes down a drain, and the sign can be moved empty at the end of the day. Sand is the serious fill — heavier for the same volume and it does not freeze, so it is the better choice for a base that stays outside through winter or on an exposed corner. Whichever you use, fill the base properly. A half-filled base is the reason most pavement signs end up on their side. The springs between frame and base absorb gusts and let the board flex instead of tipping, but they can only work against real ballast.
The integrated wheels are what make the format practical: the board tilts and rolls back inside at closing without emptying the base first. Use the matte protective covers — they shield the poster from glare and dirt, and glare is what makes a pavement sign unreadable at exactly the hour the sun is low and the street is busiest. Keep spare posters flat and dry, and change them before they curl at the edges.
