Description

Every hanging sign fails at the same point, the small piece of metal or adhesive between the sign and the ceiling. These are the parts that carry it: hooks for a grid or a rail, springs and straps for a ceiling you cannot reach, and tabs that turn a plain printed board into something hangable.

Which one

If you are hanging from a suspended ceiling grid, an S-hook is the whole answer, 35 mm for a light card and 65 mm when the grid is deep. A C-hook does the same job where the sign has to sit a set distance below the fixing, and the long 300 to 700 mm versions are what drop a sign out of a high ceiling into eye level. A spring hook is for anywhere the fixing points are not the same distance apart every time, because the spring takes up the slack and keeps the sign level. The nylon strap hanger is the one for ceilings with no grid at all: the metal cross toggles through a small hole and the strap adjusts to any length up to 1.5 metres. Tabs are the other half of the job. A 30 mm moistening tab sticks to the back of a card or foam board and gives it a hanging hole, the 20 mm PVC tab does the same for lighter work, and the KAPA hook is the one made to bite into foam board rather than sit on top of it.

Common questions

How are these sold?

In packs of 100. Hanging hardware is consumable, and a single event usually eats more of it than anyone plans for.

What holds a foam board sign best?

The KAPA hook. It is shaped to grip the foam core rather than rely on adhesive, which is what fails first on a board that has been up for a few months.

How do the moistening tabs work?

The glue is dry until you wet it. Wipe the tab, press it to the back of the card, leave it a minute. On paper and board it holds better than a pressure tape and it does not creep in a warm room.
