A screw cover turns a visible fixing into a finished detail. On a sign, plaque, mirror or glass panel where the screws are unavoidable, this is what stops them looking like an afterthought. Each set includes a cover cap and a washer, and the caps can be used indoors or outdoors.<\/p>\n
Match the cap to the screw head and to the scale of the panel, not to the wall. Diameters run 12, 15, 19 and 25 mm. The 12 and 15 mm caps cover small sign fixings and mirror plates; 19 mm is the standard sign screw and the size most orders default to; 25 mm is for large heads or thick panels, where a small cap looks mean against the surface it sits on. Held against an A3 plate, a 12 mm cap reads as a neat stud; the same cap on a shop fascia disappears and the fixing goes back to looking like a hole. Where you are unsure between two sizes, go up: an oversized cap reads as a design choice, an undersized one reads as a mistake.<\/p>\n
Match the finish to the sign, not to the wall \u2014 the cover sits on the printed face and is read as part of the graphic. Satin, black and white aluminium sit quietly on printed and painted panels and are the usual choice when the cap should not be noticed. Chrome and polished gold are the opposite: they are a visible detail, and they suit mirrors, glass, brass lettering and hotel or boutique signage where the fixing is meant to look deliberate. All five finishes take the same screw sizes, so the finish decision is purely visual and can be made after the panel is drilled.<\/p>\n
Use the washer. It sits between the fixing and the panel, and on glass and mirror it is what stops a screw head bearing directly on the surface. Drill the panel before you decide the hole spacing looks right on the wall, and space the fixings evenly \u2014 four caps in a rectangle look wrong if one is fifteen millimetres out, and the cap makes that error more visible rather than less.<\/p>\n
